Victor V. Gurbo & Company

Victor V. Gurbo & Company

Roots revivalist Victor V. Gurbo and his Four-piece backing band creates original folks ballads (A song that is traditionally sung by the common people of a region and forms part of their culture) infused with an American spirit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqwdr9JsYio&feature=youtu.be

Recently voted 2013 Brooklyn Borough Champion at WNYC and WQXR's battle of the boroughs, Gurbo & Co pays homage to the canon of American song and poetry with raw, bluesy, foot-stomping sounds that's both classic and contemporary- Brooklyn Academy of Music.

"What I like about Victor V. Gurbo & Co's "Burning the manor down" it wasn't just like nostalgia trip.  There was the sounds of Old New York there but there was also the sounds of Modern New York and it wasn't just because you were playing electric, it wasn't just because your first line lifted from a Beatles song-because lets face it, the Beatles are a lot closer to the depression than they are to our time.  There was a kind of an edge; a snarling punk edge to this music and at the same time it was really evoking sounds we probably heard in New York City from the late 20's early 30's and really the way you pulled that off and made it- as I said, not just a nostalgia trip. That was really great-John Schaefer (Host of NPR's Sound Check)
