Guide to "Spring Fun for New York City's Kids on Spring Break"

   With kids off from school, April 14-22 2014 for Spring Break, here are a couple of things to do with them.

  • Prospect Heights Craft Fair: Saturday April 12 from 11 am-6 pm. Public School 9, 80 Underhill Ave at St. Marks Ave. Free admission but there are fees for activities and wares Peruse handcrafted clothing, kids, gear, jewelry and other wares made by independent artist at this Artisan Market. For $5 kids can participate in a bunch of fun activities like arts and crafts.http://prospectheightscraftfair.com/
  • The National Grid Earth Day Celebration: Flatbush. Sunday April 6 at 3 pm. Great Artistic Plaza outside the Walt Whitman Theatre at the Brooklyn Center for performing Art-FREE. Celebrate Earth Day a little early at this seventh annual Fest, featuring interactive story telling, yoga, puppet shows, live music and a slew of eco-activities. BONUS: come early and you can also catch an hour live stage adaptation of the popular PBS kids series "Sid the Science Kid" inside the theater.   • Parkslope Family Festival: Saturday April 26 2014 11 am-3 pm. JJ Byrne Park. Free admission but there are fees for certain activities. This annual neighborhood favorite is organized by the Creative Folks at Puppetry Arts. Enjoy live family bands, bike spin art, carnival games, bouncy houses and other kid-centric fun.   • Sakura Matsuri 2014 Cherry Blossom Festival: Crown Heights. Saturday April 26 & 27, 10-6 pm. Brooklyn Botanic Garden $25 adult free for children under 12. This fantastic extremely popular two-day festival gives visitors a chance to immerse themselves in all aspect of Japanese Culture alongside the BBG's blooming Cherry Tree.  There are a bunch of activities, Taiko drumming performances, Japanese pop bands, arts and flowers arranging workshop and lots more. http://www.bbg.org/visit/event/sakura_matsuri_2014
  • Jack and Jill School Spring Fair: (Gramercy) Saturday April  26 2014 Noon-4 PM, 209 East 16th St between Third Ave and Rutherford Place.  Free admission but there are fees for certain activities, perfect setting for Pre-School sets, Bouncy Castle, do arts, get their face painted and go on rides at this annual school fundraiser. http://www.thejackandjillschool.org/default.aspx?p=107793&evtid=121772&date=4/26/2014
  • Prospect Park Fair: Parkslope Saturday April 26 11-4 PM. Enjoy all kinds of home grown Brooklyn fun, it's the second annual fest. Performance by Uncle Majic a.k.a. Hip-Hop Magician, tunes and music games provided DJ Steve Papa, pop-up nature activities by the Audubon Center 19th Century lawn games courtesy of the Leffert Historic and Tennis Center, top food trucks and giveaway from local vendors. http://www.prospectpark.org/calendar/event/prospect-park-fair
  • Leffert Historic House: Prospect Park, FREE. April 13-17 2014, 1-4 pm. Leffert Historic is offering a free spring sprout programs all week. Kids can plant a pot of herb and help the garden ready for spring. http://www.prospectpark.org/calendar/lefferts-historic-house-events
  • Brooklyn Children Museum: April 9-18 2014. Spring break Eco-fest with extended hours and free programs all week. There are prograams for kids of all ages including gardening, eco-art, story times and more.
