Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

 Thousands showed up to what i call a Stride for a Cure at Prospect Park in Brooklyn for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

One of many events that spread Awareness about a DISEASE that touches so many around the world. 
There was thousands of participants: Survivors, Sisters, Brothers Mothers and Supporters all coming together to rise awareness about a disease and the IMPORTANCE of early detention.

For most cancer survivor, Sunday's walk served as a reminder of their walk with Breast Cancer 1 in 8 women (Just under 12%) will develop invasive Breast Cancer over the course of her life time.
  1. In 2011 an estimated 30,480 new cases of invasive Breast Cancer were expected to be diagnosed in men in 2011.  A man's life time risk of Breast Cancer is about 1 in 1,000.                                                                                                            
  2.  About 85% of Breast Cancer occurs in women who have no family history of Breast Cancer. This occur due to Genetic mutations that happens as a result of aging process and life in general, rather than inherited mutations.
  3. A woman's risk of Breast Cancer approximately doubles.  If she has a first degree relative(mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.                            About 15% of women who gets Breast Cancer have a family member diagnosed with it.
     4.  As of January 1, 2009, there we're about 2,747,459 women alive in the United States with history of Breast Cancer.  That includes women being treated and women who are disease free.

Last year event raised 136,00.  This year they set a goal of 150,000 with 150 Pre-registered teams, Organizers believe they may be able to go above and beyond that goal.
